Continuing with our fall Impact Kids Miami theme of the environment, we have scheduled Sunday, December 7th as our next day of service and the first presentation meeting of our Founders Impact Pod. We will begin with a morning of service with our friends at the Miami Waterkeeper for a “ResilientSea Floating Classroom”, where they will:
EXPERIENCE BISCAYNE BAY THROUGH SCIENCE, ADVENTURE & CONSERVATION.
The team describes the experience as an unforgettable morning on Biscayne Bay where science meets adventure! This hands-on floating classroom experience combines environmental education and conservation action as we explore Miami's coastal ecosystem from the water.
What They’ll Experience:
Water Quality Testing - Participate in real citizen science by collecting and analyzing water samples to understand pollution impacts
Island Marine Debris Clean-up - Land on a nearby island for hands-on debris removal while learning about pollution sources and solutions
Sunset on the Bay - Perfectly timed to enjoy Miami's spectacular sunset over Biscayne Bay as we wrap up our adventure
PART OF THE RESILIENTSEA PROJECT
The Miami ResilientSea project is a holistic initiative that unites science, education, and grassroots action to advance climate resilience across Miami-Dade County. Spearheaded by the University of Miami and partners including The CLEO Institute, Black Women in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Science, Rescue a Reef program, Robert K. Johnson Center for Marine Conservation, Debris Free Oceans, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, and Miami Waterkeeper, this project addresses urgent climate and environmental challenges through inclusive engagement, ecological restoration and conservation, citizen science, and community empowerment.
Following the morning of service, we will meet at the boardroom at AllianceBernstein for a meeting where the kids will present for the first time on their organizations they’ve researched based on the quarter’s theme of the environment. There will be a reflection of their just completed service project and an open “mindshare” debriefing on each of their presentations to maximize the learning. After the presentations, the kids will have to decide how the money will be distributed, $1,500 as their quarterly commitments distributed from our organization’s Donor Advised Fund (DAF). We are excited to see what they decide to do and also learn what new theme we will embark on for Q1.
More to come!
