We Can Help The Environment!

Updated: Jan 3

December 7th was a wonderful day of service learning for our Impact Kids, beginning with the “ResilientSea Floating Classroom”, hosted by the Miami Waterkeeper. The kids had an amazing time learning about the ecology and changes of Biscayne Bay from the water, and in the process, tested the water quality and helped collect 34 lbs of debris.

Following the morning of service, the kids attended their Impact Pod meeting in a Miami boardroom. Following a group reflection on their service projects and learning objectives for the quarter, each kid presented on a qualified charitable organization they had chosen to research as part of the environmental theme. Following these incredible presentations, the kids voted to distribute $750 to Miami Waterkeeper and $750 to Treemendous Miami from the Impact Kids Miami Donor Advised Fund. What a fun and successful day to wrap up the activities for the quarter!

The service project was part of the Miami Community ResilientSea Project, a holistic, habitat restoration initiative that unites community science, education, and grassroots action to advance climate resilience across Miami's frontline communities The project is a collaboration between key organizations including The CLEO Institute , Black Women in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Science, Rescue a Reef program, Debris Free Oceans, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and Miami Waterkeeper to address urgent climate and environmental challenges through inclusive engagement, ecological restoration, and community empowerment.
